Lucrisha Washington

Self-written

Washington is my married name and I have seven children.

My husband and his family were born and raised in Chicago on the South Side, in the west 70s-80s around Carpenter, Bishop and Laflin streets (much of this area is in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood). Some lived further south in what’s called “the wild 100s,” and some lived in St. Louis. I was born and raised in Joliet.

Unfortunately, my husband passed away in 2020, his mother passed in 2019 and many of the older relatives have passed.

One thing about having the last name "Washington" is that no matter where I go, someone will ask me "Are you related to.......?"

It's the honor and reverence of having "Washington" as my last name that brings a smile to my face because there are so many of us all over!

I may not know the history of my husband's family's last name, but "Washington" has a long history in the United States of America, especially in Chicago.
